Outspoken

Dikson

I think the Zimbabwean scene, and especially Dikson, opened my eyes and ears, to spoken word poetry.

WoCalling

WoCalling (Women Calling), is a project put together and led by Norwegian jazz vocalist and composer Cecilie Giskemo. Focusing on the Woman, the compositions were drawing on Zimbabwean and Norwegian traditional music together with contemporary jazz and other styles.
Some of the best female vocalists in Zimbabwe and the Norwegian acapella goup Røyst together with a group of musicians, dancers and poets gave the audience at the Harare International Festival of the Arts earlier this year a varied and unforgettable concert experience. And more is to come.

Still fighting for justice

Six years after Isaias was gunned down in Mindoro, no proper investigation has been done and noone sentenced. When my best friend in the Philippines was killed, he became one of numerous political targets before, and after, him. In the 'war on terror' killing legal activists questioning the governnment's policies and actions becomes too easy to cover over.

WoCalling

The most talented and beautiful vocalists in Zimbabwe, brought together by the project Women Calling initiated and led by Cecilie Giskemo, gave their first performance at the Book Cafe in Harare on the 13th of March. The singers were backed by a group of musicians, and the poets Dikson, Aura and Flow Child presented their powerful poems supported by Cecilie's compositions.
